Transforming Government since 2001
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has activated the direct debit payment for customers of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. This service enables DEWA customers to pay their bills directly from their accounts through this bank's e-channels. Due payments are directly transferred to DEWA customers' accounts, which are consequently updated.

"This new accomplishment comes in line with DEWA's strategy to promote e-services. This will reduce the number of customers queuing in government departments, implement world-class levels of efficiency within the field of customer service, as well as delivering top-quality services in this area. This step is part of DEWA's plans to provide customers with every opportunity to use its various e-services and falls in line with its relentless efforts to deliver top-quality e-services to customers to save time and effort," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

"The service enables DEWA's customers to reduce the time taken to pay their bills through the banks' electronic channels and allows the automatic transfer of funds to customers' accounts at DEWA and immediately updates their accounts. The payment service is now available through Standard Chartered and Sharjah Islamic Bank after the great success achieved in this regard with other banks, including First Gulf Bank, Commercial Bank of Dubai, Ajman Bank, Emirates Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD, and Lloyds TSB Bank," added His Excellency.

There have been approximately 349,483 electronic transactions through direct debit from account since the launch of this service in August 2010, and it is expected that the number of transactions will increase further upon activating this service with other banks, which will be announced in due course. DEWA seeks to integrate this service with all the banks in the UAE.

DEWA provides regular payment channels through its offices from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm, except Fridays. It also provides them through petrol stations such as ENOC and EPPCO, Emirates Post Offices, Etisalat and Bank payment machines, mpay through its website mpay.dubai.ae, and via smart phone applications, such as iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Android and Windows 7, and Blackberry Playbook, as well as through DEWA's electronic portal www.dewa.gov.ae
