Over 50 students took part in this event from Khalifa University, Ajman University of Science and Technology, the University of Sharjah, UAEU and the Higher Colleges of Technology; and have learned how to equip themselves to secure a role in the fast evolving world of mobile government.
“The ability to meet the demand to build apps and mobile service provisions that is being created by the UAE government departments is critical to the success of the UAE’s positioning at the forefront of mobile government globally. University students should lead the way when it comes to app development required to deliver the required services to UAE citizens.” commented Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Deputy Director General for Information and eGovernment Sector.
On his part, Engineer Majid Al Madhloum, Project Director of Mobile Government Training and Education, said: “We are looking at students since they are the main segment in our community which will lead the efforts of developing applications for the provision of services required. We are in need of creative Emirati minds to inspire and trigger service delivery through mobile technology and would like to emphasise the importance of supporting such talent to be innovate within this sector.
“This event reflects our unwavering commitment to provide the needed support in all matters related to the development and support of human skills and capabilities involved in the implementation of this qualitative shift which will be reflected positively on all aspects of our daily life.” commented Dr Jamal Zemerly, Programme Chair, Computer and Software Engineering Programme, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Khalifa University.
The first session at the event, titled “Managing Mobile Technology” helped students understand the different processes involved when soliciting companies to build mobile applications. The second session focused titled “Express Application Development Class” introduced students to developing and producing simple mobile applications for multiple platforms from the same set of code. The third session titled “Mobile Security” focused on understanding the challenges facing an Android developer in terms of building code resistant to reverse engineering. The last session titled “IT to Facilitate Success in Mobile Delivery” used a guided process so students can build the conceptual architecture for the Youth Sports Registration App.
