Today, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Qaiwain and HE Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs; the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), signed an agreement for Umm Al Quwain e-Government to implement the e-Dirham system.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Crown Prince’s court in Umm Al Quwain, was signed by HE Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary of MoF; HE Khalid Sultan Al Shamsi, Director-General of the Department of e-Government in Umm Al Quwain and HE Saif Al Shehhi, Senior Managing Director, UAE Government and VVIP Clients, National Bank of Abu Dhabi.

The agreement stipulates that the Umm Al Quwain e-Government can now collect service fees provided to the public, develop electronic payment methods and discontinue manual payment and cash collection processes. NBAD’s role is to offer Umm Al Quwain e-Government safe e-payment channels by providing them with all the necessary devices, programmes and tools to use the e-Dirham system, and link all services to the payment gateway in addition to installing all the necessary devices in their premises. This is following the bank’s commitment to transfer all service fees electronically.

Commenting on the agreement, HE Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs said: “The e-Dirham system has achieved many successes since its launch by the Ministry in 2001, with a now large geographical spread and advanced and smart technology. These achievements reflect the Ministry’s commitment to achieve the system’s most prominent objective, which is to rationalise the consumption of government financial resources.”

HE added: “Signing an agreement with Umm Al Quwain e-Government represents strong evidence of local government entities’ support of the e-Dirham system, its services and logistics. Their commitment to enhance their ability to offer the highest level of services with accuracy and efficiency, while taking into account the system’s role in increasing time efficiency when providing services.”

MoF is also keen to conduct specialised studies which aim to identify the system’s activities and transaction processes; increasing daily transactions and continually assessing the best geographical location for e-Dirham card sale and recharge centers across the UAE.

The total number of transactions paid through the website, POS and e-collection payment reached 33,457,995 with a total revenue of AED 6,780,914,359 AED in 2014. The Ministry has added 25 new ATM and cash deposits machines to the e-Dirham network across the UAE, bringing the total number of machines to 89. These machines allow customers to easily charge and recharge their e-Dirham card. The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) allocated 530 ATM and cash deposit machines offering the same services. This brings the total number of machines offering e- Dirham services to 629.
