The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) faced the challenge of delivering secure inter-agency data exchange in the context of the country's federal structure, says Lt. Col. Khalid Lootah, Head of Information Technology at the DNRD: "Our department is charged with protecting a mass of information on citizens and travellers. However, the need to share this information with other agencies has become a high priority. Our unique solution exchanges sensitive information in a federated environment without surrendering strict control." The DNRD has enabled secure data exchange between government agencies, and extended the capabilities of E-Gate, the automated entry and exit system at Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that regulates the process of arrivals and departures.
E-Gate is a smart card-based system that is recognised for its ability to speed passengers through immigration and Passport Control while strengthening security.
The new data exchange platform, supplied by Epok, will help Dubai government agencies share highly sensitive information without relinquishing data control. The platform will also be used to enable the Dubai's E-Gate system to allow a network of E-Gates within the UAE to share information with one another.
