Transforming Government since 2001
An e-government project in Jinjiang City has been selected by the Ministry of Information Industry as one of four model locations for information and electronic administration training.

More than 500 Jinjiang City civil servants have been put through the 'electronic administration training programme', the first phase of which completed in November. The training programme incorporated e-literacy, familiarisation with the administrative benefits of IT-enabled government, and case studies to demonstrate how to map out processes and identify procedures for e-enablement.

At a meeting to review the success of the initiative Jinjiang Mayor Yang Yimin said that municipal division leaders needed to be committed to using technology to improve administrative efficiency, and to ensure that their staff were trained to operate within an IT-enabled administration: "You play a crucial role in the e-government education programme," explained Yang.

Local Party Secretary, Gong Qinggai, encouraged the audience of officials to build on the first phase of training by committing to 'lifelong learning' and acting as 'e-government advocates'.
