Healthcare providers and researchers affiliated with the Ministry of Health have been encouraged to register on the ministry’s electronic library website, which would offer them access to thousands of e-journals and e-books free of cost.

The e-library started registration on February 8, 2015 and was officially launched on May 5, 2015, Safaa Al Hashmi, medical librarian at the ministry, told the Times of Oman.

She was speaking during the 5th edition of Oman Health Exhibition and Conference, which was recently held at the Oman International Exhibition Centre in Muscat.

Target groups

According to Al Hashmi, the target groups of the initiative are workers and researchers in the health sector, academics and students in health education institutions as well as the management of health centres.

The introduction of the e-library was in line with the ministry’s efforts to move towards e-governance and would help improve healthcare services in Oman, she explained.

The available resources, which cover a broad range of specialties, is a gateway to cutting-edge evidence-based medical information, which can keep healthcare experts updated on the latest developments in their field of specialty, noted Al Hashmi.

Registration

The medical librarian added that so far, around 7,000 people have registered on the website and encouraged more individuals to register as it would enable them to access information from anywhere at any time. More resources will be added to the library in future, said Al Hashmi.

Those interested in using the e-library are advised to visit www.moh-elibrary.gov.om, create a new account and fill out the registration form. The activation link for their account will be sent to their e-mail within 48 hours and then they can start browsing the e-library by following the instructions.
