Gauteng Finance MEC Mandla Nkomfe on Wednesday said the provincial government is considering running the shared services call centre itself.

The province has ended its contract with the company that had been operating the call centre after a complete breakdown in services.

The Gauteng government is still trying to decide how much to pay the company for the balance of the contract.

Nkomfe said while the supplier may not deserve the money, the province is legally obliged to settle.

“The fact of the matter is that we have cancelled the contract long before it expired, it was a five year contract,” said Nkomfe.

Meanwhile, on Thursday morning Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane dismissed reports that government is paying a R40 million a month cancellation fee to Sibize International Calling.

“We are not paying for a cancelled contract. We are paying for the work they have done but we have the contract moving forward,” said Mokonyane.
