The Mnquma Local Municipality recently contracted TMT to implement an advanced Smart Safe City solution aimed at enhancing public safety, improving situational awareness, and enabling faster response to incidents.
The project, centered in Butterworth, represents a major step forward in the municipality’s vision of using technology to create safer, more connected communities.
TMT provided an end-to-end solution — from design and installation to system integration and commissioning.
Strategically positioned long-range surveillance cameras now provide wide-area monitoring across key parts of the town, while license plate recognition (LPR) cameras automatically detect and record vehicle movement to assist law enforcement in identifying stolen or suspicious vehicles.
Complementing these are traditional CCTV cameras installed throughout high-traffic areas to ensure comprehensive coverage.
All these systems feed into a state-of-the-art control room, where operators can monitor live video feeds and receive real-time alerts for suspicious activities.
The intelligent platform integrates advanced analytics to detect unusual behavior, enabling authorities to respond quickly and effectively to potential threats.
The successful rollout of the Butterworth Smart Safe City marks a significant milestone for both TMT and the Mnquma Municipality — showcasing how technology and innovation can work hand in hand to create safer, smarter communities for everyone.
