The Treasury Board wants a consultant to do a shared services review, which the government expects will result in options for saving money and improving services, programs and accountability.
Besides information technology and human resources, the review will also examine financial services, and building infrastructure and asset management. A request for proposals issued Tuesday said busing for school boards is included.
The review includes 17 government departments and 18 other public entities such as the premier’s office, aboriginal affairs office, the human rights commission, and the Public Prosecution Service, though the consultant could look at more than that.
The province’s eight school boards are all included. The tender document notes each one has a human resources director with staff.
The Crown corporations that will be reviewed are under the responsibility of the economic development minister. They are Nova Scotia Business Inc., Trade Centre Ltd., the Waterfront Development Corp., Film Nova Scotia and InNOVAcorp.
Progressive Conservative Leader Jamie Baillie said the government should have looked for administrative savings at school boards before making education budget cuts that have filtered down to classrooms.
