Transforming Government since 2001
The introduction of Information Communication Technology (ICT) would improve agriculture production and increase the income of local farmers.

Acting National Project Coordination of the Fadama III programme, Mr. Tayo Adewumi said the application of ICT under the component IV programme currently being undertaken in Fadama is to promote modern technologies and research activities among farmers.

At a technical forum on the commencement of component IV analysis with researchers from 12 selected participating states, Adewumi explained that agriculture extension would be the major tool for the promotion of the ICT component.

He said the focus of component four is research and agriculture extension to be able to carry out a lot of activities especially the on-farm demonstration for farmers.

"Our priority in Fadama is to fall in line with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government by working toward targeting the attainment of food security and contributing to the overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of this nation."

He said Fadama is also working toward creating employment to the youth and women and to make agriculture a business venture and not just an intervention programme.

"We are now using the onshelf technology and are already working with research institutes across the country to promote some of the newly introduced technologies like the Sawa Rice technology which have boosted rice farming in Kebbi State from 2.5 metric tons per hectare to 7.2 metric tons per hectare," he said.
