Transforming Government since 2001
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) says it is training Nigerian legislators on basic use of computers and the Internet to enhance the efficiency of the legislative arm of government in the country.

NITDA's Director General, Prof Cleopas Angaye, who disclosed this in an interview with journalists at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja last week, said the training would provide the lawmakers the necessary information on e-governance.

Prof Angaye said many Nigerian public officials have not keyed into e-governance and that NITDA is making effort to provide them adequate information about it.

He said so far, over 50 permanent secretaries, 1,000 top civil servants and about 100 legislators have been trained on the basic use of computers and the internet.

He said the training is already enhancing the performance efficiency of the public sector because most officials now transact government businesses online.

A lot of fund, he said, is being saved for the Federal Government through the agency's monitoring of IT equipment and services in the public sector. "Overestimated services and equipment are now easily being detected by NITDA and this is saving a lot of fund for the Federal Government," he said.
