Kano State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board yesterday said it would commence biometric data capturing of about 50,000 prospective pilgrims in the North-West zone of the country.
In the same vein, the board had given intending pilgrims who had paid part of their deposits up to March 16 to complete payment as it planned to close registration of prospective pilgrims.
Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Muhammad Abba-Danbatta, gave the advice while briefing newsmen in Kano yesterday.
He said the advice was necessary to enable the board commence the biometric data capturing of all the pilgrims as directed by Saudi authorities.
Abba-Danbatta said: “We intend to close registration of prospective pilgrims on Friday, March 16, to enable us commence the biometric data capturing of our portal pilgrims immediately.”
“So there is the need for us to start early in view of the fact that no fewer than 50, 000 intending pilgrims from the zone are expected to be in Kano for the exercise.”
He further disclosed that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) had allocated 5,500 Hajj seats to Kano State, pointing out that the payment of the fare was still ongoing.
The executive secretary, who declined to state the number of pilgrims that had paid their deposit, expressed hope that those who paid the deposit would complete the payment before the deadline.
Meanwhile, Kano State government yesterday constituted an eight-man taskforce that wouldl follow-up and collect accumulated land use charges in the state.
According to the government, the aim was to generate additional revenue needed to address development challenges, particularly the provision of essential infrastructure and sustainable social services. The taskforce had Alhaji Habibu S. Mailemo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue as chairman.
