Transforming Government since 2001
The National eGovernment Strategies Limited (NeGSt), the vehicle created by the Federal Government to implement the Nigerian eGovernment project will over the coming six months embark on a systematic rollout of its product offerings, its Managing Director, Otumba Felix Obada, has said.

Obada who made this announcement at the recent NeGSt shareholders agreement signing ceremony said, by linking the services of various ministeries, agencies, parastatals and businesses in the country through a national portal the NeGSt will for the first time bring synergy to the nationwide implementation of various IT projects. "Such a portal will reduce the need to log on to different agency websites to order services or find information," said Obada.

He said, the seamless integrated service offerings across different agencies would bring about one-stop-shopping on eNigeria.com.ng.

The Nigerian eGoverment initiative refers to deliberate efforts by the Federal Government of Nigeria to deliver government information and services online via the internet in order to ensure that the citizens and businesses are served better and cheaply.

Obada said in the Nigerian situation a single portal with security features and a payment engine is shared across the board, thus making services more widely accessible to the general public.

He said the government was adopting a public-private partnership model to reform the public sector and bring about good governance through probity, transparency and accountability.

This model which consists of rated banks, strategic partners, technology providers and high net-worth individual investors, and which was adopted by the United Nations in April 2004, is expected to bring socio-economic gains that will benefit the citizens he said.

NeGSt, he said, had entered into long term working relationship with solution providers, infrastructure owners, equipment manufacturers and system integrators for the purpose of implementing the national eGovernment project. By benefiting from those already existing capabilities and capacities, NeGSt, he said, would not have to start from the scratch.

"By this arrangement NeGSt will benefit from low financial entry into the eGovernment business while Alliance Partners, will benefit from volume business as they are patronized by all tiers of government and businesses nationwide," he said.

He said NeGSt would monitor and coordinate the implementation of the various product offerings and tweak them to international specifications and the global agenda on ICT development.

On privacy and security over the lnternet, Obada said expense was not being spared to give the eGovernment national portal the best security.
