Transforming Government since 2001
A website launched by the Ministry of Transport recently aims to provide local and international businessmen with investment opportunities available in the Kingdom's transport sector, a senior government official said on Sunday.

Ministry of Transport Secretary General Alaa Batayneh said the website www.mot.gov.jo offers comprehensive information on the transport sector, especially for those with plans to invest in the sector. Batayneh indicated that investors can ask questions online and get speedy response from the ministry officials.

"The website gives the e-mail and telephone number of officials should an investor or a visitor seek any official in particular," said Batayneh.

Visitors will also have data on all laws and regulations governing the sector. Moreover, the website includes information on all transport (land, air and sea) agreements signed between Jordan and Arab as well as foreign countries, he said.

One benefit of listing such deals on the website, he explained, is helping importers and exporters be acquainted with transport mechanisms between Jordan and other countries before engaging in trade deals.

The website will also include information on the joint transport companies like those between Jordan and Egypt, Syria and Iraq.

Information on almost all local transport corporations and their regulations will be available on the web such as Royal Jordanian, the Civil Aviation Authority, Jordan Maritime Authority, Public Transport Regulatory Commission and Aqaba Railway Corporation.

In the future, said Batayneh, the ministry may list tenders it issues on the website so investors can apply for these tenders on-line.

Launching the website, he indicated, is part of the e-government programmes and in line with His Majesty King Abdullah's directives towards modernising transport services in the country.
