The Philippine’s e-Nutrition project bagged the grand prize in the recently held Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC) Awards under the ICT Best Practices for e-Government category.

This is the second time the Philippines won the ADOC Awards in the same category. The Bureau of Internal Revenue won the same award in 2005 for its e-Filing and e-Payment System.

The e-Nutrition project is a joint effort by two sub-agencies of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST); the Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) and the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI).

Two other projects from the Philippines were submitted for the ICT Best Practices for e-Government category: the Interactive Climate and Weather Information Network of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, as well as the Community Health information System, otherwise known as the e-Gov for Health project of the Pasay City Health Office.

Other countries that submitted entries for the category include Peru for its electronic procurement system, Papua New Guinea for its financial management improvement program, Vietnam for its manageable system infrastructure project, Indonesia for its SmartMaps for taxation and Chile for its online tax declaration service.

The e-Nutrition project, otherwise known as the Philippine Knowledge Center on Food and Nutrition, aims to improve the nutritional status of the Filipino population by providing online and updated information on food consumption, nutrition and health status.

Users of the e-Nutrition project, located at the FNRI website (www.fnri.dost.gov.ph), are mostly local government units, national government agencies, non-governmental offices and other beneficiaries in developing nutrition-related programs.

ADOC is a project started by the Taiwanese government, created to ensure the realization of goals by the APEC to speed up the development of regional programs bridging the digital divide.
