Part of a wider plan to reform its e-government systems.

Indonesia wants to learn from Singapore’s experience of using technology to deliver public services, the Minister for Bureaucratic Reform, Yuddy Chrisnandi, said last week after a meeting with Singaporean officials.

Singapore’s e-government systems allow it to involve citizens in decision-making and also share real-time information with citizens, businesses and government officials, Chrisnandi noted.

He visited the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE), an agency that facilitates foreign governments to learn from Singapore’s public sector. SCE said it will send officials to Indonesia to share expertise on e-government initiatives and invited Indonesian officials to study how Singapore has implemented its systems. IDA is willing to share technical assistance.

"We will immediately follow up [on] this meeting. This cooperation is very important in the process of bureaucratic reform in public service in Indonesia," Chrisnandi said.

South Korea has signed an agreement to train Indonesian officials on cyber security, data centres, business permit systems and citizens services.

South Korea has the best e-government initiatives in the world, according to the 2014 United Nations E-Government Rankings. Singapore is ranked third and Indonesia 105th.

Indonesia has a wider plan to change how government interacts with businesses and citizens. As part of this, this year the government is pushing all agencies to use shared IT systems for budget, procurement and human resource to reduce costs.
