Transforming Government since 2001
Caretaker Minister for Information Technology Dr Abdullah Riar said Saturday that the concept of telemedicine would bring advantages of information technology to rural population.

Addressing the launching ceremony of the Hospital Management Information System Project at Capital Hospital, he said the telemedicine projects were meant to assist the government in transforming delivery of health-care services and making them available at the doorsteps of common man.

The minister said the project would not only bring transparency in the system but also ensure the timely health facilities to the people. He appreciated the performance of the e-government directorate, what he said was developing the software of international standard.

Riar said the project incurred the cost of Rs38 million and added that the project had been launched before the set deadline. The minister stressed the officials of the hospital to ensure the enforcement of the computerisation project and added that the failure in this regard would be a disservice.

Earlier, CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari said the computerisation of the authority was in full swing and the project would be completed by 2008. CDA has received about 5,000 computers from the ministry of information technology, he added.

Lashari said in order to ensure the successful enforcement of the project, the CDA staff would be imparted training. He said being enough of resources; CDA would engage multinational companies as well in this regard. Capital Hospital Executive Director Hamid Zeb said the project was initiated in March 2005 and was completed about five months ahead of the deadline.

He said the project would help the doctors and other staff to retrieve the previous record of the patient even after the passage of years.

"The project will result in reduction in file research time, efficiency in medical data retrieval, quick availability of historical data of patients as well as stock management of hospital", he said.
