Transforming Government since 2001
Dutch drinkers can now access a website to check online their alcohol consumption behaviour, and seek advice if necessary. More than 100,000 have done so since mid-December 2002, when the website was established by the National Institute for Health Advancement and Sickness Prevention (NIGZ ).

Visitors to this website fill in a questionnaire anonymously. Participants judged to be ‘over the limit’, are subsequently invited to fill in a second questionnaire if they wish to avail themselves of personal health advice.

According to the NIGZ, 75 per cent of all visitors take the first test and 50 percent go on to take the second.

The NIGZ is pleased with the response, which has already exceeded all expectations. Even though interest dipped slightly in early January, this site, targeted mainly at adults, nevertheless had some 16,000 visitors in the first two weeks of 2003.
