The test run of the new Facebook page of the government portal aims at providing the existing press information, which is also available on the portal, chinhphu.vn, to a wider range of Vietnamese audience, said the head of the government's website.
The information that the Vietnamese government has officially launched a Facebook page is not accurate, Vi Quang Dao, general director of the government's website, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
For a long time, the electronic portal of the government has sent emails containing information about the directives and administration of the government, the Prime Minister, and other Deputy Prime Ministers, to the press agencies and journalists specialized in monitoring the activities of the government and the Government Office, said Dao.
However, the press agencies have often used only a fraction of press information according to their needs, while other information, which may be useful to other people, has been omitted or not fully published, he said.
Therefore, the government electronic portal has begun the trial to bring all the available press information, which has already sent to press agencies, on the Facebook to disseminate the information about the directives and administration of the government more broadly so that more Vietnamese people can gain the access to the information, he added.
"The information that the government has officially launched a Facebook page is exaggerating. The fact is that we have expanded the availability of press releases on the Facebook,” Dao told Tuoi Tre.
A source of Tuoi Tre in Government Office also confirmed that at the moment there is not any official documents of the competent authorities on the creation of an official channel of the government and the Vietnamese leadership on the Facebook.
But in a resolution on e-government has been issued, there is a content on establishing social networks of the government so that the people can consult in the process of developing legal documents.
In March, The Vietnamese Ministry of Health announced the official Facebook page of Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, who uses it as a channel to provide information and receive questions regarding healthcare from the public.
In January this year, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that the authorities should provide the public with official and accurate information in a timely manner on social media as it is impossible to ban people from uploading information to social networking sites at a meeting to review the past performance of the Government Office and discuss tasks for 2015.
