The Kenya government on Wednesday launched a program that will transform the way the state agencies and departments deliver service to its citizens.
Prime Minister Raila Odinga said the main aim of the project is to improve the quality of life through fast tracking of delivery of public services and projects.
“The transforming the Kenya program will utilize 100 day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) cycles as well as information technology (IT) to ensure that services promised are delivered.
“We must discard piecemeal approach to reforms and embark on comprehensive transformation of the country,” Odinga said during the launch in Nairobi .
The Kenyan prime minister said the government will adopt a coherent strategy to offer services where all departments will share infrastructure in order to reduce duplication of services.
The first 100 days began on Wednesday and will involve the designing of a Citizen Service Centre (CSC) by the end of the three months period.
“A roadmap for the integrated service delivery via online and mobile platforms will be ready to enable citizens to use CSC to access government services.
“Services to be available include immigration documents, licenses and birth certificates,” ICT Secretary of the Directorate of e-Government Katherine Getao said.
CSC will be located close to public transport terminals areas or areas that people already congregate so that the government services are more available to the citizens, she added.
“While the centers will borrow from the better practices globally, Kenya hopes to use the latest technology to leapfrog the rest of the world,” Getao said.
The program will ensure that the public service focuses on the achievement of country economic blueprint, Vision 2030 medium term plans as well as the establishment of one-stop shop for where all essential government services are available.
“The government will aim to integrate commonly used public services by ICT.
“This will include establishing one-stop shops, a single-window online portal for government services, call centers, and mobile phone platforms.
“This will truly transform government services, making them accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, “ Odinga said.
“There are 18 and a half years to the year 2030, therefore by using 100 day rapid results initiative, the government and public will be able to monitor the progress of the projects,” Director General of the Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat Mugo Kabati said.
He said the program will impact the economy by improving the business climate as well as enhancing economic opportunities available to the residents of the country, he added.
