Transforming Government since 2001
The Government is set to roll out an Electronic Medical Record in over 600 health facilities countrywide to hasten service delivery in the health sector.

Speaking in Mombasa during the commissioning of an EMR system at the Port Reitz hospital, health cabinet secretary, James Macharia said ICT is the backbone for economic growth in the world.

“The ministry is making out major strides in the realization of a digital world. We have planned to set up fully functional data centre, implementing of district health information system and health workforce system,” he said.

“Others include m-health and e-health facilities and we target to computerize all health facilities in Kenya,” he added.

The government is committed in improving the health standards of the nation by bringing the services to the ordinary citizens through devolution.

He said as the devolution process continues, it is critical that ICT as a management tool should be institutionalized across all the department in the health sector.

“The challenge remaining is the adoption of EMRs in health management while leveraging on the comparative advantage of private sectors,” he said.
