Ngwaketse Land Board has been congratulated for setting the trend and using Information Communication and Technology to become the first "e-compliant land board" in the country.

The website www.ngwaketselandboard.gov.bw will make information available and communication easy between the land board and its customers, said Ministry of Communications Science and Technology (MCST) permanent secretary, Mrs Marianne Nganunu.

Officially launching the website in Kanye, recently, she said the institution has realised that the internet is a powerful communications tool. "As Ngwaketse Land Board you have just opened a door to a whole new world of opportunities." Government mandate, Mrs Nganunu said, is to bring services to the people and that MCST has decided that e-government, which will be implemented in steps, is the way to go.

She said in the first step, all ministries and departments including land boards are expected to provide application forms online such that people could complete, print and submit them to the relevant office.

"As the next step we should be able to complete the forms and submit to the relevant office electronically." The final step would enable people to pay for services online. She however noted that for e-government to be a success, people must have access to computers.

Her equal in the Ministry of Lands and Housing, Ms Botshelo Mathuba said success in today's world depends on how best organizations market themselves .

"Ngwaketse Land Board has realised that the best way to market itself is to communicate effectively to reach most of its customers.

Land boards have to make customers aware of all their services, products, policies, laws and procedures," said Ms Mathuba.

"We have all along relied mostly on Kgotla meetings to communicate with the community and we will continue to do so not only because many of our people can not access the internet, but also because it is important to talk to them directly as we are administering a very important and sensitive resource," said Ms Mathuba.

She said there is need to find other ways such as websites to assist those people not within the land board areas of jurisdiction to access the information they need.

Ms Mathuba urged the Ngwaketse Land Board to ensure that the information in the web is always relevant and up to date.

Ngwaketse board secretary, Mr Makgesi Maratasaid the website will improve service delivery.

He said through the website people would be able to access information such as plans for the year, recruitment, and allocations.

"We are also pleased to report a 100 per cent success in the computerisation of our accounts using the Microsoft Great Plains Software.

This has enabled us to pay service providers on time, to have easy traceable records and transactions, to produce instant reports and statements," said Mr Marata
