Transforming Government since 2001

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday launched the national Information Communication Technology (ICT) policy to underpin economic growth through use of ICTs.

The policy puts in place institutional and legal frameworks aimed at promoting growth of the ICT sector and the economy at large, Mnangagwa said.

"It is therefore envisaged that all sectors of the economy and society at large will harness the power of ICTs for the development of our nation," the president said.

He said the policy will go a long way towards making the information technology revolution the basis for transforming Zimbabwe into an e-society.

He said the government would continue to promote use of ICTs through investments in backbone infrastructure, ICT education, research and development as well as ICT governance.

The government would also speed up implementation of the e-governance program, he said.

"We recognize that e-government will ensure that services are available to citizens in a convenient, efficient and transparent manner."

"In addition e-governance will help in the eradication of corruption through automated systems which remove bureaucratic impediments and bottlenecks," Mnangagwa said.

The president also launched a national innovation drive to promote innovation especially among the youths.
