Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at premises of DoCIT, Mr Patrick Chang, the Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, said: “The e-mail server is a state of the art product of Taiwan; with its 110 gigabyte storage and built-in Virtue Private Network (VPN) and Firewall, it can provide e-mail services for 1000 governments employees with 100 megabytes storage of each account by using .gov. gm.
“I hope this will contribute immensely to improving the ICT in the country as advocated by the UN,” he said.
According to him, training of installation management and users of the e-mail system to IT managers and users of all departments of state will soon be provided by the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM).
Apparently overwhelmed with joy, Mrs Neneh Macdouall-Gaye, the Secretary of State for Communication, Information and Technology, said the e-mail server will facilitate exchange of ideas among Secretaries of State and government officials, besides enabling Gambians in other parts of the world can apply for passport another national documents through the email to access services in The Gambia via the e-mail server.
She said: “We want to thank you for helping us to promote ICT. We also look forward to the establishment of a computer assembly plant and hope that you support us in this.”
