The ranking is a vast improvement from the previous UN ranking of E-government, which put Colombia in seventh place regionally. In addition, Colombia's global ranking improved from 52nd to 31st place, according to a press release from the office of the Colombian presidency.
Colombia's Ministry of Information Technology and Communications is responsible for E-Government strategy, "whose aim is to use technology to bring the Colombian people and government closer together," according to the press release.
The statement also said that, "In the past two years, there have been important steps taken... to advance the public administration of E-Government. There are over 700 procedures and services that can be done completely online, which can be accessed here."
Following Colombia in the regional rankings are Chile, Uruguay, and Barbados.
The world's leading country today in the field of E-Government, according to the UN report, is South Korea, followed by Sweden, USA, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Australia, Spain, and then France.
