According to an article on the EU Observer website, policymakers have now decided to pursue a "cloud active" strategy for countries in the region, with potential benefits in the field of ehealth coming about as a result.
"A cloud could be used to store all the health data of an individual, including recent prescriptions, ailments, treatments, operations, allergies and blood type," it explained.
This information could then be instantly accessible, even if patients move house and are treated by a different doctor or need medical assistance while abroad.
Cloud computing also features in the British government's new ICT strategy, which was recently introduced by Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude.
It was said that the technology will provide the capability to respond to changing operational needs.
