Councillors in Chester are being given the chance to have their own online journals as part of the city council's e-government drive.

A new website called 'Chester Blogs' enables local residents to find out about the work being undertaken by councillors and provides an opportunity for people to feedback their views and receive direct responses to their questions.

The first councillors to take up the challenge are John Price MBE, Bob Rudd, Richard Short, Jeanne Storrar, Doug Haynes and David Mead.

Others will be given the opportunity to publish their journals over the coming months and eventually all 60 city councillors will be able to use the site to facilitate two-way communication with local people.

Councillor John Price MBE, deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for e-government and technology, believes that the site will bring councillors closer to their constituents.

He said: "The Chester Blogs website makes it easy for councillors to hear views, seek comments and tell people just what it is they are doing.

"It is a positive step forward and the use of internet technology will engage members of the public, such as young people, who are not generally interested in local government."

To find out more about the work of city councillors or to view their journals and offer feedback, visit the Chester Blogs website.
