Transforming Government since 2001
A Merseyside council has been singled out for leading the way in a national project developing and sharing best practice and software.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has recognised St Helens Council and its partners.

St Helens was a partner in the Enterprise Workflow national project and developed a "demonstrable solution" for the delivery of Strategic Planning and Performance Management.

The team co-ordinated the development of software and a "self help" consultancy package whereby councils could implement software that is shared and managed within the public sector.

The aim of the initiative was to develop and share best practice and software that was developed by the public sector for the public sector, so delivering an efficient and low cost solution.

The rights and ownership of the products lie with St Helens which is the accountable body of the User Group.

It consists of Salford City Council, Sefton Council, Tower Hamlets London Borough, Angus County Council and Cheshire County Council. Other Councils are now set to join.

St Helens Council's Chief Executive Carole Hudson said: "St Helens is one of only a few councils that have gone on to deliver a sustainable and managed environment enabling other local authorities to take advantage of the investment in the national project now, and in the future.

"In recognition of this work and its success, the Minister for Local e-Government Jim Fitzpatrick gave an award to Cath Fogarty, our Assistant Treasurer (IT and Audit) and to Alison Lobley from Salford City Council."
