Following this achievement, Chester City and Crewe and Nantwich Borough Councils are adopting a new, joint strategy which means that all future information technology developments will be planned together to maximise opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
Chester City and Crewe and Nantwich Borough have already enhanced several services in the areas of council tax and benefits, developing websites and improving the way that customer requests are managed and are rated amongst the highest achieving district authorities in the region having consistently reached government targets which require key services to be delivered electronically. Their success at meeting these targets has improved the accessibility and availability of key services, making life easier for staff and customers.
Both councils also work closely with other local authorities through the Cheshire and Warrington Information Consortium and will continue to work with them, where possible, on a wide range of initiatives.
Chester City Councillor John Price, portfolio holder for e-government and technologies, said: “Our partnership with Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council is proving to be very successful and is opening many doors for future collaborative working. It is helping to improve efficiency, make significant savings and deliver better services to our residents.”
Crewe and Nantwich Borough Councillor Graham Fenton, portfolio holder for finance, added: “By improving our service and driving down costs with these initiatives we are delivering efficiencies.”
