Two new, hi-tech internet kiosks which allow visitors and local people to find public information and services at the touch of a screen are up and running at Sainsbury’s store in Newhaven and the Village store in Newick.

These free easy-to-use kiosks will help local people reach on-line advice on health, travel, leisure, safety, employment, social issues, as well as information about council services.

The AccessPoint kiosks offer a new way of getting to the vast amount of advice and information now available on-line. Additionally, users can send emails and pick up replies from any of the AccessPoint kiosks across Sussex.

The kiosks are provided through the Access East Sussex partnership, which is made up of East Sussex County Council, all the District and Borough Councils in the County, Sussex Police, and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.

John Clark, Head of Business Services at Lewes District Council said “This is an excellent example of partnership working between local councils. The kiosks will make it easier for residents to find the information they want at the touch of a screen and help increase access to service for people who don’t have internet at home”

Cllr David Rogers, Lead Member at Lewes District Council said “It is our intention to make the internet available to as many people as possible at convenient locations. There are 2 information kiosks within Lewes District at Newhaven and Newick as part of this partnership arrangement. This follows a very successful pilot scheme where feedback from people demonstrated that increased access to information about council services is helpful and valuable”.

Cllr Bob Tidy, Lead Cabinet Member for E-Government at East Sussex County Council, said “The Access East Sussex partnership continues to go from strength to strength, resulting in better access to services for people in east Sussex. Together with the walk-in Community Help Points, people now have a choice of how to access services near to where they live”.
