Two East Midland councils have agreed to setup the first cross-county shared services agreement.

Charnwood Borough Council in Leicestershire and Rushcliffe Borough Council in Nottinghamshire will partner up on benefits and revenues, information technology, finance and human resources.

The partnership has appointed supplier Liberata to provide and house the services. They will be housed in a new business centre, which must maintain access to front-line services in the two boroughs and be located in a "mutually beneficial and agreeable travel to work area for all staff".

Savings are expected to reach £740,000 by the contract's second and third years. Both councils recently signed a concordat which committed them to achieve annual savings of at least 10 per cent.

The partnership has also said it welcomes any other interested councils in the area who wish to join.
