The London borough council of Lewisham has designed a model which will enable local authorities around the UK to provide e-government services across a wireless broadband infrastructure. As part of the National Project for Mobile Working (Nomad, which is sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Lewisham and UK incumbent telco BT have developed a wi-fi template that is to encourage other councils to adopt the technology for e-government services, according to a report on technology news site ZDNet.
Initially, the council is to install the wireless network into a number of buildings.
Access points will enable the public and council employees to use their laptop computers to connect to the internet.
