Transforming Government since 2001
Britain’s local authorities are not enthusiastic about electronic co-operation with the NHS, according to a recent survey.

The survey of local-government organisations, by the telecoms firm NTL, found that local-government bodies see “joined up working” with other public-sector organisations such as healthcare and education as a low priority, despite the emphasis being placed on it by central government. Local authorities are instead focusing their attention on improving putting services online and enabling electronic interaction with citizens. About 98% of local-government organisations expect to meet the egovernment targets set by Whitehall for next year — even though a quarter of them have not even started building their egovernment systems.

One striking finding was that local authorities regard multimedia — the provision of services via interactive TV and mobile channels — as the least important aspect of egovernment. Rollout of public-access information kiosks also scored poorly as a priority.
