VisionWare is implementing MultiVue Identification Server, its data integration platform, to do the job. A pre-requisite for the introduction of the Single Integrated Electronic Health Record (SIEHR), this intensive data management exercise, facilitated by MultiVue, will enable the Trust to achieve the required Informing Healthcare readiness targets.
The Trust has historically addressed the issues of duplicate patient demographic details and different patient identification numbering systems through a variety of system-specific departmental approaches. This often resulted in the duplication of effort when investigating inconsistencies and a lack of resilience to support a standardised process. This has in turn prevented the Trust from maintaining the standards of data quality necessary to support the SIEHR.
The Trust needed to create an environment where all those involved in the provision of healthcare services can with confidence, select and search for individual patients across the clinical information systems using a much more co-ordinated approach.
The Trust decided to centralise the current departmentalised sources and implement a data management solution to provide a sustainable approach to the validation and maintenance of patient details. The Trust selected MultiVue to streamline this validation process so that multiple occurrences of patients across the key clinical information systems can be identified and maintained as part of a single process.
VisionWare is delivering its .NET-based MultiVue and Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 to the Trust to integrate patient demographic information held on the key clinical information systems; PAS, Pathology, Radiology and Critical Care.
To facilitate the management of data and create an environment where continuous validation of patient identification details can occur, Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 will link the key clinical information systems and MultiVue will automate and centralise the validation process across the multiple clinical information systems. The process will include manual and automatic record matching, whilst regular standard and ad-hoc reports will monitor improvements in the data quality and assist in the early identification areas requiring further validation.
The centralised team of staff will address the data validation and the updating of patient identification details across multiple clinical information systems.
The MultiVue solution from VisionWare will deliver huge benefits to Pontypridd & Rhondda NHS Trust. The automatic updating of key patient identifiers on all clinical systems will identify and reduce the number of duplicate records across the clinical systems and enable the Trust to standardise the format of demographic details recorded across the systems.
By creating a single validation process for patient identification details, time spent by clinical department staff validating patient details will be greatly reduced as well as the risk of clinical staff acting on incorrect patient information.
Automating the patient record matching process and updating the information across all the linked clinical information systems will enable the clinicians and staff, with confidence, to search for individual patients across the multiple systems whilst creating a complete clinical record for clinical data management purposes.
Willie Clinton, Sales Director of VisionWare said: Based on industry standard XML technology, MultiVue is the platform for healthcare organisations to improve and maintain the quality of information held on individual patients. The goal for the NHS today is to have seamless, patient-focused information. MultiVue delivers this by providing clinicians with the right information to make informed decisions at the point of care.
