A state-of-the-art desktop system, with built-in data feeds and no wires, for the civil service - this was the highlight at the launch of the Government Executives in the New Information and Knowledge Era or GENIE showcase.

The event kicks off the recently-announced iGov2010 masterplan aimed at raising the service and proficiency levels of public servants through the use of cutting-edge technology.

The Singapore government said Wednesday it has set up a company to dispense advice to emerging countries that are eager to learn from the wealthy city-state's development model, including how to build world-class airports and create Singapore-style townships.

Singapore's Foreign and Trade and Industry ministries have jointly set up ''Singapore Cooperation Enterprise,'' a non-profit company to ''market and export Singapore's public sector expertise.''

Singapore, a city state of nearly 700 square kilometers with a population of over 4 million, has drawn a blueprint for transforming itself into an intelligent nation and global city powered by infocomm in a decade.

Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015), officially launched last week, is Singapore's latest 10-year masterplan in its infocomm development journey started with the Civil Service Computerization Program in 1981.

Singapore said Wednesday it will share the city-state's expertise with interested foreign governments in areas such as airport management, education systems and homeland security through a newly formed company.

The not-for-profit Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) will be the main vehicle for the city-state's public sector to share its experiences and expertise, a joint statement by the foreign and trade ministries said.

Singapore will be setting up an e-Government Leadership Centre for training of industry and government personnel, as part of efforts to promote the country’s e-Government solutions.

Speaking at the opening of the Infocomm Media Business Exchange 2006, Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, said Singapore’s e-government solutions were an example of innovative “Made-by-Singapore” products, services and solutions that could help the country’s infocomm industry compete more effectively in the international market. “Our proven track record in developing and implementing innovative e-government solutions over the last 25 years has helped our local enterprises on the world market,” he said.
