The Social Service Sector ICT Masterplan, or SS2016, aims to drive productivity and deliver service improvements in helping those in need.
The master plan will see the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) work together with National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).
The initiative aims to raise the ICT capability of some 400 Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs), and about 8,000 social service personnel over the next five years.
Acting Minister for MCYS Chan Chun Sing said technology should be used to improve information management and data-sharing.
Mr Chan said: "We intend to put more ICT tools in the hands of social service professionals, such as the use of mobile devices by social workers who make home visits and conduct off-site programmes.
"At the organisation level, we want to increase ICT awareness and spur ICT adoption.
More details on specific projects under the master plan will be provided progressively as they are rolled out.
Mr Chan said to encourage social service organisations to take advantage of professional development and productivity improvement opportunities, MCYS will commit S$100 million to the VWOs-Charities Capability Fund over the next five years.
This is almost double the amount compared to the last tranche.
