Transforming Government since 2001
Singaporean couples who want to tie the knot can access a full suite of marriage services through the Internet without having to leave their home, Xinhua reports.

The services of Singapore's Registry of Marriages (ROM) and the Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM) became fully online Wednesday, Channelnewsasia, a local English language TV station, said on its website. Although Singaporean couples have been able to e-file their notice of marriage at ROM online since 2001, the new system will allow them to carry out other functions as well, said the report.

They can now change solemnisation details such as date and venue, conduct searches of marital records and extract copies of marriage certificates online, it said.

And for the first time, non-Singaporeans wishing to marry in Singapore, either at the ROM or ROMM, will enjoy this convenience, it noted.

Under the e-government action plan launched in 2000, more and more Singaporean government agencies are going online to provide the public with easy-to-use e-services.

Last year, the city-state unveiled the second phase of the plan with the vision to create "a leading e-government to better serve the nation in the digital economy".
