Transforming Government since 2001
The Western Australian (WA) Government has managed to claim a major milestone in the roll-out of its Office of Shared Services project. The new entity, part of the Treasury Department, aims to generate annual cost savings of $A50m by centralising back-office functions for several agencies.

However, WA Auditor-General Colin Murphy recently noted cost blow-outs and delays, in particular with the payroll function. That module has now been delivered by provider Oracle, and has been shown over six pay runs since November 2007 to be functioning well. The Hummingbird document management solution from supplier Open Text will also still be used, despite previous problems with the faulty software.
