The popularity of Service SA’s online service delivery has increased, with the South Australian government reporting a 14 per cent increase in online registration renewals this year.
The online shop, which contains secure purchasing facilities for residents to pay bills, renew vehicle or boat registration, and apply for a birth, death or marriage certificate, was introduced in 2009.
According to the SA Minister for Government Enterprises, Gail Gago, the site has increased in popularity with residents.
“In 2010-11, registration renewals under the secure online system increased by 14 per cent and now represent 48 per cent of all registration renewals,” Gago said in a statement. “…As of January this year, 33 per cent of all licence renewals were completed online.”
The increase in use of the system coincides with the release of a new lookup function on the Ezy Reg website, with Gago saying that South Australians are able to easily check the expiry dates of any car registered in South Australia.
“It enables drivers to easily type in the registration number of a light vehicle and be immediately informed of its registration status,” she said.
“When searching vehicle details, the look-up function provides customers with plate and vehicle details and the registration expiry date however it does not provide personal information.”
The news comes as Plans by the South Australian Government to roll out biometrics at a number of prisons across the state were delayed at the end of last year.
