Computerisation of planning permission application process at the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.4 crore was launched on Thursday.As an immediate change, the applications for special buildings will receive an electronically generated acknowledgement. After the process of verification of documents and inspection is complete and an order is passed regarding the application, the applicant will be informed of the decision through e-mail.
Nigeria: Federal Government initiates 3-prong approach to IT development
The Federal Government through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has initiated a tripod approach to developing information technology in the country.This effort, according to Cleopas Angaye, director general, NITDA, is geared at refocusing the sector to drive the nation’s economy through implementation of the IT policy passed in April 2007.
The approach which is currently under implementation is geared towards human capacity development, infrastructure capacity building and institutional capacity building.

USDA hands out broadband grants
Acting Agriculture Secretary Chuck Conner announced yesterday the selection of 19 grants in 13 states and American Samoa of $10.3 million in broadband community connect grants.“The Community Connect program serves rural communities where broadband service is least likely to be available, but where it can make a tremendous difference in the quality of life for citizens,” Conner said. “The projects funded by these grants will help rural residents tap into the enormous potential of the Internet.”
