  • NG: S. Korean Govt’s agency trains 204 Nigerians

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the graduation, the 6th edition, marked the end of the the training for participants, which started on Jan. 16.

    The South Korean government, through it’s Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on Friday in Abuja graduated 204 Nigerian participants trained on e-Government.

  • NG: Shittu commends NITDA on projects, solicits speedy delivery

    Barr. Adebayo Shittu, minister of Communications, has commended National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA’s) on its projects, pledges to support the Agency’s programmes and solicit for speedy delivery of them.

    Shittu expressed his delight with the Agency during the ministerial briefing of the Ministry of Communications held at the minster’s conference room featuring National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) led by Mr. Peter Jack, the director general, and his management team.

  • NG: Smart City: Lagos to reply 10,000 CCTV cameras

    Speaking at the annual Ministerial Press Briefing to mark the third anniversary of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration, Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hakeem Fahm, said the smart city initiative, which is on course, was intended to allow the people and companies operate in a safe and secure environment thereby creating more jobs and increasing the Gross Domestic Product of the State.

    The Lagos State Government on Friday said arrangements are in top gear to deploy additional 10,000 High Definition CCTV cameras across the State as part of the comprehensive Smart City Programme designed to provide a 24-hour driven economy.

  • NG: Uduaghan Harps On E-Government As He Swears In New HOS

    Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on Monday swore-in a new head for the State’s Civil Service, Mr. Paul Evuarherhe, with a charge on Civil Servants and Public Office holders to be dedicated to their duties and render selfless service.

    Dr. Uduaghan commending the new head of service on his deserved appointment, challenged him to help in ensuring that the State’s Civil Service was fully Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliant.

    The state has also emerged as the first Runner-Up in ICT Human Capital Development at the 13th National Council on Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy in Jos, Plateau State.

  • NG: 'We Will Make ICT Applications Accessible to Lagos Residents'

    Lagos State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Adebiyi Mabadeje, in this interview with Nahimah Ajikanle Nurudeen, explained what the state government is doing to explore ICT as a tool for development and effective governance in Lagos State. Excerpts:

    Q: What role is science and technology expected to play to help Lagos State eradicate poverty?

    Our policy thrust in Lagos State is to eradicate poverty and generate sustainable economic growth and development. We are consultants to all the MDAs and therefore any service you are getting from the government, we have a part to play. Generally, because we do that, we help them to deliver their services better. There is room for improvement.

  • NG: 'Why We Need ICT in School Curricula'

    A Non governmental organization known as Basic Information and Communication System (BCIS-NIIT) has pledged to provide necessary support for the successful implementation of the proposed Federal Government Rural Information Technology Centres to be built across the country, just as it advocated the inclusion of information communication technology (ICT) in primary and secondary school curricula.

    The General Manager of BCIS-NIIT, Halima Umar, who spoke on the organization's 13th scholarship programme in Abuja, noted that skill acquisition is the only antidote to youth unemployment in Nigeria and it could be acquired through ICT.

    The immediate past President, Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria(ISPON), Mr. Chris Uwaje, has decried the absence of an information communications technology (ICT) law in the country, saying it is impacting negatively on technology development.

    Uwaje, who was reacting to the recently passed cybercrime law by the Senate, told THISDAY that unless an ICT law is promulgated, technology development would continue to drag to the detriment of the country.

  • NG: ‘Health Records to Be Computerised By Next Year’

    Nigeria’s health records will be computerized by 2013 to ease referrals from one hospital to another, the Registrar of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN), Alhaji Mohammed Mami, has disclosed.

    Speaking at a one day workshop organized for Health Record officers yesterday in Kaduna, said the e-health record would also reduce the waiting time for an appointment, saying the computerization of such records would help reduce medical error which includes wrong prescription.

    Nigerian entrepreneur and Chairman of Cubana Group, Obi Cubana, says his partnership with Zoe New Dawn Nigeria Limited for the development of a mixed housing project in Abuja will benefit low income earners.
