NG: Nigeria

  • NG: Revolutionising the ICT Sector in 2013

With creativity and strategy, Nigeria’s information and communications technology industry can withstand its challenges and further boost its achievements and prospects in 2013

Summary of Relevant Aspects Although Nigeria has recorded tremendous growth in the telecommunications market over the last decade and counting, harnessing the nation’s communications industry has become imperative for its further growth.

While celebrating the breakthrough of the industry, plans should be put in place towards ensuring that the sector gravitates to another level from what is currently obtainable.

  • NG: Rising e-governance adoption saves FG N120bn

The growing adoption of e-governance by many states of the federation is an indication of government’s continuous effort to not only curb corrupt practices but reduce the rising cost of governance by plugging leakages in government revenue, analysts have said.

E-commerce stands at the forefront as the driver of innovation in the postal services because competition in the e-commerce market provides positive incentives for all market players, parcel carriers and retailers, and tends to spur the development of new delivery solutions.

Modern developments in the global postal industry show that technology plays a pivotal role in postal services. It acts as an enabler and a driver for better services for consumers. The future impact of emerging technologies and innovations portends more viable growth and positive benefits for postal services and consumers.

  • NG: Road to single window ports operation

Many believe that it will be easier for the camel to pass through the eye of the needle than to clear goods at the ports within the stipulated 48 hours. To overcome the challenges, some have advocated the adoption of a national single window(SW) instead of the present multiplicity of agencies and terminal operators at the ports.

For ports users, the challenges of doing business are almost limitless. Achieving 48-hour cargo clearance at the ports has remained a mirage. It has made doing maritime business in neighbouring countries in the sub-region attractive.

IT is a great privilege to have been asked to give a public lecture in honour of such eminent practitioners, educators and leaders in their respective fields as the late Professors Adeoye Lambo, Martinson and Montefiore.

I understand that Professor Montefiore passed on only about a month ago. I join you all in commiserating with his family, friends, colleagues and students on this fresh loss and hope that the honour we give to him as well as to his late, learned colleagues will give them strength.

As Nigeria accelerates toward a fully digital economy, a new frontier of opportunity and vulnerability is unfolding. With the rapid adoption of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things, Nigeria stands at a pivotal point where innovation must be accompanied by data privacy and security.

As a risk management and cybersecurity specialist with decades of global experience, I want to offer deep insight into how Nigeria can navigate the complexities of this transformation.
