  • Vietnam to digitise 60 per cent of state documents by 2015

    60 per cent of official documents and materials exchanged between state agencies will be in electronic format by 2015, according to instruction number 15/CT-TTg issued by the Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on May 22.

    All ministries and relevant government agencies and the people’s committees of provinces and cities nationwide have been requested to use email to exchange documents such as invitations, reports, announcements and other official papers.

    The PM also asked for the digitisation of archived documents and material to help civil servants search for and deal with information via the internet.

  • Vietnam to digitise national database

    Ministry of Justice (MOJ), Vietnam has recently revealed the project to digitise basic information of all citizens and include them in the national database on population and in national ID cards by late 2020.

    This plan is a part of an overall scheme to simplify the government’s administrative procedures, personal papers and database related to population management during the 2013-2020 period, recently approved by the PM.

  • Vietnam to improve electronic tax services

    The Ministry of Finance recently approved its information technology master plan which aims to promote IT application in the tax managing activities to improve the power and effectiveness of the tax system and tax procedure transparency.

    To fulfil this plan, the ministry is making preparations to develop a large, core integrated information system that can serve taxation, customs, budget, treasury, securities, and many other operations.

  • Vietnam to integrate data using cloud

    Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) will use cloud computing technology, IBM CloudBurst, to integrate data relating to the country’s natural resources and environment, said Nguyen Huu Chinh, Director, Information and Communication Technology Department, MONRE.

    Chinh said that with the use of cloud, the ministry will be able to address its “fragmented IT infrastructure” that has data centres scattered across departments and local government offices.

  • Vietnam to launch national credit information database

    The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has issued a circular that mandates the formal creation of a national credit information database to give credit institutions an oversight of the industry and to help them achieve efficiency in their internal operations.

    The circular governs the State Bank’s departments and entities, the SBV branches of provinces and the cities directly under the central government, credit institutions and foreign bank branches, borrowers and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Vietnam to modernise population management systems

    The Government unveiled plans to modernise administrative procedures related to population management as part of its efforts to improve its capacity to collect, process and disseminate population information and data.

    The draft version of the plan was unveiled during a high-level meeting last 26th April.

    The Ministry of Justice said it will be collecting feedback from concerned stakeholders before submitting the finalised plans to the National Assembly Standing Committee and the Government for continued consideration.

  • Vietnam to share internal info through cloud

    Vietnam’s Department of Information Technology, under the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, is now preparing a proposal that will let government agencies in the country share information via the cloud, said Nguyen Huu Chinh, Department of Information Technology’s Director General.

    Also keen to share inter-agency information through the cloud is the Information and Communication Technology Centre, Ministry of Science and Technology. Bui Dac Phuc, Deputy Director of the agency said that they already have a 1-year project with a budget of US$2 million approved.

  • Vietnam to speed up path to e-government

    A high level steering committee led by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has been finalised to ensure the realisation of the government’s ambitious plan to modernise government administrative procedures and processes.

    Other members of the steering committee include Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang, Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong, and Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son.

  • Vietnam to spend VND6.5 trillion on e-government

    Vietnam is to devote a total of VND6.5 trillion to develop its electronic government systems, according to a draft on the development of information technology and media applications from 2006 to 2010.

    The state budget and Official Development Assistance loan (ODA) would finance the project, said the draft, which suggested that Vietnam should enhance the usage of IT and media applications at enterprises and e-government.

  • Vietnam to tighten cyber security for digital transformation, e-government

    Most basic goals in Resolution No.17/NQ-CP about electronic and digital government development until 2020 are fully met, said the Ministry of Information and Communications in its summary report on the two years implementing the Resolution.

    In the last 5 years, both the central Government, the local authorities, and the community have wholeheartedly supported the establishment of an e-government in Vietnam, leading to such impressive success in only 2 years adopting Resolution No. 17/NQ-CP.

  • Vietnam up one place in UN e-government index ranking

    Vietnam has moved up one place to rank 88th among the 193 countries in the United Nations E-Government Survey 2018.

    Vietnam scored High in the Online Services Index (OSI) and E-Participation Index (EPI) (up from 0.5 points to 0.75 points).

    In the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam was ranked sixth after Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Brunei.

  • Vietnam wishes to collaborate with UN in digital transformation: ambassador

    Vietnam wishes to collaborate with the UN on digital transformation in both policy formulation and implementation, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the international organisation has stated.

    At a September 1 meeting with Amandeep Singh Gill, UN Under-Secretary-General and Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, the diplomat affirmed that Vietnam is willing to contribute to the UN's policies and strategies in the field, including an initiative on a global digital agreement in the Secretary-General's report on “Our Common Agenda”.

  • Vietnam-Japan workshop on building e-Government

    Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung and Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Kunio Umeda co-chaired a workshop in Hanoi on promoting e-Government building on February 27.

    In his opening speech, Minister Dung urged all ministries, sectors and localities nationwide to mobilise all resources for and prioritise the building of e-Government.

  • Vietnam, France cooperate in e-government building

    The Government Office of Vietnam and the French Development Agency (AFD) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in e-government development in Hanoi on May 30.

    Attended the signing ceremony were Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and French Ambassador to Vietnam Bertrand Lortholary.

  • Vietnam, France discuss smart city development

    A seminar on building smart and digitalised cities was held in Hanoi on April 14, as part of the 12th Vietnam-France decentralized cooperation conference.

    The event was co-chaired by Permanent Vice Chairman of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh and President of the Nevers Agglomeration Denis Thuriot.

    Speaking at the event, Minh shared the approach to smart city development in Da Nang under the pillars of infrastructure - data – intelligence, with people and organisations being placed at the centre to assess its effectiveness.

  • Vietnam, France seek link-up in e-government development

    France’s core experience and success in developing an e-government were shared with the Vietnamese side during a meeting between officials of the two countries.

    At their working session in Paris on April 19, Minister and Chairman of the Office of the Vietnamese Government Mai Tien Dung, General Secretary of French Government Marc Guillaume, Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Mounir Mahjoubi, as well as representatives from French enterprises, discussed the possibility of boosting the link-up between the two countries to help Vietnam to develop an e-government.

  • Vietnam, Japan share experience in building smart cities

    Vietnamese and Japanese experts shared experiences in building and developing smart cities in combination with environmental protection during a seminar held in the central province of Quang Nam on August 18.

    The event was part of the Japan Cultural Days in Quang Nam to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties (September 21, 1973).

  • Vietnam, RoK expand cooperation on smart city building

    A business connection programme to foster cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) in smart city development is underway in Ho Chi Minh City.

    Held from October 15 to 17 by the HCM City Computer Association (HCA) and Meta Square, the initiative, Vietnam & Korea on IT Sector, aims to help with the city’s goal of becoming an economic hub in Asia and a global city.

  • Vietnam, RoK share experience, initiatives on smart city development

    The CICON 2023 – the second international conference that combines the initials of Creative Urban, Culture, Convergence, and Industry took place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 7, offering opportunities for Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) to participate in the smart city and blockchain industry, build a network of businesses from the two countries.

    The event was co-organised by Korea CEO Summit (KCS), Ho Chi Minh City Union of Business Associations (HUBA), Young Business People Association of Ho Chi Minh city (YBA HCM), and Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG).

  • Vietnam, Singapore agree to develop e-government systems

    A seminar focusing on Vietnamese and Singaporean cooperation in the application of e-government technology was held in Hanoi on March 10.

    An official from the International Enterprise Singapore said that his country has launched six IT development programmes and strategies over the last 25 years, adding that Singapore has implemented three general plans to develop its e-government system.
