    `Mobile Governance' could help solve people's problems faster through better application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said today.

    "The mobile phone is now being used by the common man with ease and Gujarat is first to spread its usage in governance," he said while inaugurating a three-day conference, e-INDIA, in Gandhinagar.

    The new concept of `Mobile Governance' would be on the lines of 'e-Governance' and 'Good Governance', he added.

    The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has won the Manthan Award (South Asia-Digital inclusion for Development) for its mobile-governance project in the e-governance category. The civic body was awarded second prize in the e-governance category at the function held on Friday in New Delhi.

    "RMC has been on the forefront to use IT to deliver various civil services to its citizen in a more friendly manner and were constantly improving it so as to reach out to people in a very efficient way," said Ajay Bhadoo, municipal commissioner, RMC.

    Chief Minister congratulated the Department of Excise and Taxation for providing information technology enabled services to the tax payers of the State. He said that the e-enabled services were the need of the hour and with the launching of e-CST service, dealers would be getting statutory forms essential to avail concessions on inter-state trade, anywhere and at any time round the clock through internet services.

    Kapil Sibal, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, today launched the pilot e-Gov application store. The e-Gov Appstore has been designed, developed and hosted by DeitY through NIC. The Appstore will bring functional efficiencies to the government and enable citizens to receive services in a more streamlined manner. Inclusion of IT in governance aims to reduce uncertainty and improve transparency” said Mr. Sibal on the occasion.

    In a major step towards curbing the inefficiencies plaguing the functioning of the government in terms of providing services online to its citizens, IT and Telecom minister, Kapil Sibal launched an e-governance application store today.

    This appstore will allow citizens to receive information in an efficient and a much-simplified manner. It is hosted by the DeitY and has been designed and developed by the NIC.

    The appstore will start with 20 apps, of which 'roughly half' will be directly accessible to the public (g2c). The number is expected to rise to 100 within three years.

    After setting an example with its e-mandi concept, now the south Indian state of Karnataka will be setting another landmark. The central government has now asked Karnataka to share details of state's mobile-governance platform which integrates 4,187 services, both government and private, into one app, Mobile-One.

    As per an Economic Times report, the Narendra Modi government is planning to facilitate other states with a similar technology and scale it to the national level.

    The mobile app, which is growing at a rate of 10% every month and has generated business worth Rs 5 crore, is just seven months old and was launched by President Pranab Mukherjee. Karnataka Chief Minister, who is not so tech-savvy made it a pet-project and the app, so far, has got 1.25 crore hits and 1.5 lakh downloads.

    State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on Friday unveiled a low-cost version of its smart phone, with e-governance applications for common man.

    Branded as "Bharat phone", the mobile device has a three-inch large screen display with provision for dual SIM card and has been priced at Rs.1,099 to make it affordable to common man.

    "The low-cost mobile device will alter the Indian feature phone industry as it has been designed especially for e-governance applications and optimised for internet access to empower common man," BSNL chairman R K Upadhyay said on the occasion.
