With Prime Minister Narendra Modi going all out to push the concept of Digital India, the Centre has asked for details of Congress-ruled Karnataka's mobile-governance platform, which integrates 4,187 services, both government and private, into one app, Mobile-One. The intent is to study it, get other states to replicate it and scale it up to the national level.
Seven months after its launch by President Pranab Mukherjee in December 2014 with the intent of giving integrated services to the public at their fingertips, the Mobile-One app has generated business to the tune of Rs 5 crore and is growing at a rate of 10 percent every month. A pet project of Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, who is otherwise not known to be tech or IT-savvy, the app has had 1.25 crore hits and 1.5 lakh downloads, so far.
