  • MT: Mobile government strategy to officially launch in March 2018

    A mobile government strategy aimed at providing the country with a 24/7 access to public services through the use of mobile applications will be fully operational in March 2017 Principal Permanent Secretary Michael Cutajar and MITA Executive Chairman Tony Sultana announced at a press conference today.

    The soft launch, which begins today, will use focus groups to test the application in order to create platforms which are based on citizen involvement.

  • MY: myemail users to get reminders before driving licence/road tax expires

    Tricubes Bhd, the enabler of the 1Malaysia email account which is part of the government's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), has introduced two initial electronic services on www.myemail.my based on the Road Transport Department's (JPJ) driving licence and road tax reminder for myemail users.

    "With this new JPJ eService from myemail, myemail users will be reminded two weeks before their driving licence or road tax expires," said Tricubes chief executive Khairun Mokhtar in a statement today.

    "The reminders will be sent via email directly to the user's myemail inbox. For added convenience, reminders can be sent to the user's smartphone as well." he said.

  • MY: Perak: Ipoh city council’s complaints app to start April 30

    Ipoh City Council (MBI) has launched a new app-based complaints handling system, which will kick off on April 30.

    Perak local government committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi said the MyAduan MBI app would make it easier for people to lodge complaints on council-related issues or problems.

    She said the app could be accessed 24 hours a day and was part of MBI’s Smart City initiative.

  • MY: Transport Ministry to use mobile apps in traffic management

    Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin says his ministry will be using mobile application to inform the public on traffic management, public transportation and waste collection services.

    He added that his ministry will also be implementing the smart traffic system to regulate traffic flow in the state, particularly in Kuching and here.

  • MyCityApp Nigeria Debuts

    MyCityApp Nigeria, in collaboration with MTN Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy has launched a new digital city platform, MyCityApp, aimed at boosting tourism, expanding access to government services and connecting businesses more directly with residents.

    The application, unveiled in Abuja on Thursday, is designed as a smart urban companion. It integrates city services, event listings, payment systems, transport information, hospitality offerings, and small-business visibility into a single digital interface.

  • Nepal leverages digital ID registration to launch e-government app to Beta

    The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) of the Nepalese government has launched a national government services app, Nagarik, for all government services across 40 governmental entities via a single platform, writes Nepalese outlet enepsters.

    Nepal’s app is part of the Digital Nepal Framework project, and makes use of previously-registered digital ID data. The same drive to provide services online is gaining popularity around the world.

    The Dutch Ministry of Economic affairs is to build the world’s first government sponsored mobile alert system based on cell broadcast (CB) technology.

    Cell broadcast, an existing functionality of the GSM technology, makes it possible to provide instructions to citizens in a specific location, for example providing instructions to people to stay inside and close their windows because there is a gas leak.

  • New SingPass mobile app to simplify access to Singapore Government services

    Updates to the National Digital System were provided yesterday including the planned launch of a SingPass Mobile app providing an enhanced two-factor authentication method and extending the use of the Government’s MyInfo profile to 160 government to citizen services by the end of 2018 from the current 70.

  • New Zealand: State Services Commission negotiates 'all of Govt' deals for mobile

    The State Services Commission (SSC) is trying to wring a better deal on mobile phones for all government agencies, including local authorities.

    It is negotiating two separate "syndicated procurement" agreements with Telecom and Vodafone.

    These would let all government agencies buy mobile phone services from one or other telco at the same price and on the same terms and conditions.

It is an improvement on the 1.0 version designed to accommodate interactions between the government and the citizens. The platform is expected to deliver economic and social benefits to investors and the entire citizens of Lagos State as a drive toward the smart city status.

    The pillars of the Citizens Gate application center on citizen participation, open communication, and transparency on the part of the government. It will also offer social benefits such as feedback mechanism, population profiling, capturing accurate public opinion, tracking and enforcing government performances, security/community policing, LASRRA registration and verification, and access to day-to-day activities across MDAs.

    Um das Klima zu schützen und Staus zu verringern, reformieren die Niederlande radikal ihr System der Verkehrsbesteuerung: Statt der althergebrachten Kfz-Steuer zahlen Autobesitzer künftig pro gefahrenen Kilometer, die mittels GPS-Systemen gemessen werden, und das auch außerhalb der Landesgrenzen.

    Die am Freitag von der Regierungskoalition - bestehend aus Christ- und Sozialdemokraten - beschlossene Einführung des neuen Kfz-Systems soll im Jahr 2012 erfolgen.

  • Niederlande: Kilometergeld ersetzt Kfz-Steuer

    Um "das Klima zu schützen und Staus zu verringern", reformieren die Niederlande ihr System der Verkehrsbesteuerung: Statt der althergebrachten Kfz-Steuer zahlen Autobesitzer künftig 3 Cent pro gefahrenem Kilometer. Die Gebühr wird bis 2018 schrittweise auf 6,7 Cent erhöht. Auf die Einführung dieses Systems von 2012 an einigte sich jetzt nach jahrelangen Debatten die Regierungskoalition aus Christ- und Sozialdemokraten. Das neue System biete Anreize, das Auto stehen zu lassen. Dadurch werde die Belastung der Umwelt durch CO2 in Fahrzeugabgasen voraussichtlich um zehn Prozent abnehmen, erklärte Verkehrsminister Camiel Eurlings nach Medienberichten vom Samstag. Insgesamt werde die Zahl der von niederländischen Autos zurückgelegten Straßenkilometer um 15 Prozent abnehmen, da mehr Menschen auf öffentliche Verkehrsmittel sowie das Fahrrad umsteigen würden. Zudem werde es pro Jahr 7 Prozent weniger Verkehrstote geben. Bis 2020 könne sich zudem die Zahl der Staus auf Hollands Straßen auf das Niveau von 1992 verringern.

  • No more “fix my pothole apps” from government IT: Ovum

    IT decision-makers in most governments have already made all the technically easy wins and now is the time for government to focus on delivering integrated, citizen-focused services, according to the 2016 Trends to Watch: Government Technology report by global research and advisory firm, Ovum.

    “Does the world need any more ‘fix my pothole’ apps?” asked author Al Blake, principal analyst, public sector, Ovum. Terming e-government “passé”, he called on policy-makers to move beyond simple single-function applications focused on automating existing government processes toward full-scale digital government, innovating entirely new processes of government en route.

  • NP: First governance mobile app launched

    Search for Common Ground, Nepal’s first governance mobile application was launched at Singha Durbar amid the Next Growth Conclave 2017 on Wednesday.

    The application aims to educate, aware, and inform the public on critical and important laws and policies on governance, a finger-tip version on federal structure, mobile readable version of Nepal's constitution, and information on access to justice and legal services.
