  • NG: FG mulls launch of emergency health call centres nationwide

    As part of efforts to achieve digital bridge and rural access to Information Communication Technology (ICT) for health delivery, Omobola Johnson, minister of Communication Technology, has disclosed that the ministry is working towards full mobile coverage of the country by the end of this administration.

    The minister, who stated this in Abuja at the first Pan African Health Summit organised by the Ministry Health, Federal Capital territory (FCT) in conjunction with INTEL Corporation, said this would enhance the delivery of mobile health care using information technologies for a healthier Nigeria.

  • NG: FG partners EU to create digital single market ―Shittu

    The Federal Government through the Ministry of Communications is collaborating with the European Union Commission to create a Digital Single Market in Nigeria.

    Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu made this disclosure in Lagos on Tuesday at the 2017 Information Communication Technology and Telecommunication Expo.

  • NG: FG Partners ICT Experts On Abuja’s Smart City Project

    The Federal Government, on Monday, expressed interest in partnering with eligible Information, Communications and Technology ( ICT) experts in making Abuja’s Smart City Project, a successful initiative.

    This interest was shown in Abuja, as the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA, the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA) and other agencies, joined Abuja’s Smart City Project promoters, ioSafe Nigeria, and Havel Corporate Concept in a road show.

  • NG: FG partners South Korea on e-government

    As part of efforts to actualise the e-Government Master Plan 2020, the Federal Ministry of Communications has concluded plans to train about 22,650 civil servants in the country by a Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

    The Country Director of the agency, Jung Sang-Hoon said the capacity building programme is expected to be completed before 2017.

  • NG: FG Plans Nationwide Biometric Data Capture For Pensioners

    The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has said it was embarking on a nationwide verification and biometric data capture exercise for all pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) in the country.

    Director-general of PTAD, Mrs Nellie Mayshack, who made this known yesterday during a sensitisation workshop for the treasury funded parastatals and their board of trustees, in Abuja, lamented that the absence of comprehensive database of pensioners under the old scheme was hindering the effective delivery of PTAD’s mandates, one of which include ensuring prompt payment of pensioners.

  • NG: FG Restates Commitment To ICT Local Content Devt

    As Nigeria joins the world to mark the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2015, the federal government has restated its commitment to the development and promotion of local content in the ICT space for job and wealth creation.

    This was disclosed by the minister of communication technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, during a media interaction with journalists yesterday in Abuja.

  • NG: FG saves N220bn through integrated payroll system

    The Federal Government on Tuesday said it had recorded savings of about N220bn since April 2007 when it commenced the implementation of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.

    A statement from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation said that the amount was expected to increase when other agencies of government would enrol onto the platform.

  • NG: FG says e-Government master plan, ready for implementation

    The Federal government has said plans to move the Information and Communications sector forward has been perfected and ready to be rolled out. The plans are contained in the Communications sector road map and the e-government master plan, which the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu just revealed, was ready for implementation. The Minister made the disclosure when he paid a familiarisation visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) on Tuesday in Abuja. He said the ministry was determined to commence the implementation of the documents soonest.

  • NG: FG seeks Stakeholders Collaboration on Data Protection, Privacy

    The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Musa Istifanus has called for more collaboration on data protection and privacy assessment in the country.

    He stated this during an online meeting between the Ministry and Data Analytics Privacy Technology Limited (DAPT) led by its Executive Director/Partner, Ambassador Segun Olugbile held on Zoom Webinar platform from 11am to 12noon, Monday, May 11, 2020.

  • NG: FG set to ratify memorandum on e-govt —Minister

    Federal Government, on Saturday, through the Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, in Lagos State, declared that ICT sector remains essentially an easy avenue to shore up the country’s revenues, buoy the economy and create job opportunities for the country’s youth.

    He also disclosed that in a matter of days, the government would approve a memorandum before it that would transform the way business was being done in Nigeria.

    He said this at the inauguration of a company, Avidor Services Limited, which is into production of EMV bank cards, GSM cards, ID cards, among others.

  • NG: FG Set to Unveil National E-Governance Framework Soon

    The Director General, National Information Technology Agency (NITDA), Mr. Peter Jack, has said Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology, will soon unveil the national e-governance master plan developed in the twilight of the last administration.

    Fielding questions from the media, weekend in Daura, Katsina State, the DG said the agency and its parent ministry in partnership with the South Korean government developed the e-governance framework on bilateral relationship with Nigeria to make governance smarter, accessible and to bring about dividend of democracy to every Nigerian.

  • NG: FG Targets $900bn From ICT4D Initiative before 2020

    The federal government has said it is targeting about $900 billion from a specialised information technology initiative tagged, Information and Communications Technology 4 Development (ICT4D), before 2020.

    In a publication made available to THISDAY in Abuja, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) stated that the document is a blue print on how to use IT to drive every sector of the economy towards the attainment of the nation's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

  • NG: FG Targets 50% Broadband Penetration by the End of 2020

    The federal government has said going by its projections, digital economy would contribute more than 45 per cent to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) given that the contributions of the ICT sector to the GDP stands at 17 per cent.

    The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, who disclosed this at the weekend, noted the COVID 19 pandemic is fast-tracking adoption of digital technology in the country.

    Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Chukwuemeka Wogu; Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson and the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Ibrahim Omar will launch the scheme for government workers who will be empowered with ICT equipment like computers, smartphones, printers, scanners, projectors, UPS and home appliances like television sets, refrigerators, deep freezers, microwave and electricity generating sets of any brand of their choice.

  • NG: FG Tasked On Integration of National E-Health Policy

    Towards boosting healthcare delivery in the country, experts have called on Federal government to enact a national policy on electronic health (eHealth), and come up with strategies that will ensure its integration into the current healthcare system.

    eHealth as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO), is the cost-effective and secure use of information and communications technologies, ICT in support of health and health- related fields, including health-care services, health surveillance, health literature, and health education, knowledge and research.

    The Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu has disclosed that the full implementation of the e-government master plan 2020 will soon begin once stakeholders’ inputs are incorporated into the policy document.

  • NG: FG to Commence Nationwide Verification of Pensioners

    The Director-General, Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD), Mrs Nellie Mayshak, yesterday said the federal government would soon commence a nationwide verification and biometric data capture exercise for all pensioners.

    Speaking in Abuja at the opening of a sensitisation workshop for treasury funded parastatals and their pension boards of trustee, she also said government was committed to the welfare of its pensioners and would do all it takes to sanitise the system.

    Federal government says it is considering integration of Information Communication Technology, ICT into education curriculum.

    The Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, who disclosed this on Tuesday at the inauguration of boards of NIPOST, NIGCOMSAT and NITDA under the ministry in Abuja also said that Federal Government has concluded plans to establish IT Security Units in all ministries to realize the e-Government plan.

    The Ministry of Communications says the Federal Government is repositioning the country’s economy by leveraging on Information Communications Technology (ICT).

    A statement issued in Abuja by Mrs Pauline Sule, the Assistant Chief Information Officer, quoted Mr Sonny Echono, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry as saying this at the 6th edition of DSTV Eutelsat Star Awards in Lagos.

    Similarly, the N19, 480,500 million has been pencilled down for media conference on the master plan and roadmap to create awareness about the project to the general public.
