  • Qatar: Interior Ministry to decentralise services

    In a concerted effort to make matters easier for nationals and expatriates alike, the Ministry of Interior Affairs is moving towards a complete decentralisation of its operations.

    Matters related to passports, citizenship, visas, traffic-related matters and criminal investigations will be brought under one roof in several centres to be situated throughout the country, it was announced at a press conference.

  • Qatar: Kahramaa and Islamweb win Arab e-Gov award

    Two Qatari websites have won top GCC e-Gov awards. The official websites of Qatar General Electricity and water Corporation (Kahramaa) and “Islamweb” won first places in two separate categories.

    Kahramaa’s website got the first prize in the e-Service category for its e-billing service while Islamweb grabbed the first place in e-Content category.

  • Qatar: Make sure health card is valid, HMC advises patients

    The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has urged all patients to ensure their health cards are up-to-date and valid.

    HMC has issued internal directives, effective November 1, not to dispense any medicine to a patient who fails to produce his own valid health card or a Qatari ID.

    Should any person come to collect medications on behalf of a patient, he/she must produce the health card or Qatari ID of that patient.

  • Qatar: Mandoobs face extinction as e-government gets popular

    With the e-government services becoming increasingly popular, mandoobs (representatives) handling visa and immigration work for private sector companies, government departments, ministries and corporations may go out of job.

    "If mandoobs do not learn computers and the Internet, they may simply be reduced into drivers," the director of e-government project, Ahmed Al Mohannadi, told a local Arabic daily yesterday.

  • Qatar: Medical Commission blames delay on glitches

    A technical team at the Medical Commission is working on removing the “bottlenecks” in the recently introduced e-registration system for companies seeking the mandatory medical checks for their workers, a senior official of the Commission said yesterday.

    Reacting to complaints by some company representatives (Mandoobs) in the local media about the new system, Dr Ibrahim Al Shaar, director of the Medical Commission said the service had neither faced any major problem nor the Commission had received any complaints in this respect.

  • Qatar: Metrash counts 145,985 subscribers

    A total of 145, 985 people have subscribed to Metrash – one of the e-Services provided by Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, according to a local Arabic daily.

    Available for both nationals and expatriates, individuals and companies, Metrash is an SMS service which periodically alerts subscribers giving them advance warning on expiration of their residence permit, driving licence and vehicle registration.

  • Qatar: Ministry sets up hotline for mosques maintenance

    The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has set up a new telephonic system to receive applications for maintenance of mosques.

    This was announced at a press conference at the Ministry attended by Abdullah Al Medihiki, head of the maintenance section and Saeed Hadi Al Mirri, head of the information section at the Ministry.

  • Qatar: Ministry signs deal to improve staff IT skills

    The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA) has signed an agreement with the ICDL GCC Foundation to improve the IT skills of all the ministry’s employees.

    The ICDL GCC Foundation is the governing body and the certification authority of the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) programme in the Gulf States.

  • Qatar: MMAA to accept complaints online soon

    The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA) will start accepting complaints from the public online once its plan to introduce electronic services in its various departments becomes a reality.

    An agreement to provide electronic services was signed yesterday by the development institution at the Ministry and Omnix, a member of the Doha-based Salam International. The Raya Gulf for technology and information system will provide the technical support for implementing the project.

  • Qatar: MoI to issue smart ID cards next year

    The new, National Identity Smart cards (NIS) which the Ministry of Interior is planning to issue to Qatari citizens and expatriates early next year, offers a host of features such as the ability to perform several transactions electronically and storage of biometric data such as iris scan, fingerprint and image, all on an embedded microchip.

    A deal to supply the equipment and technology to issue one million such smart cards was signed here yesterday between two foreign suppliers and Qatar’s Ministry of Interior.

  • Qatar: MoU signed on digital literacy programme

    The International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) GCC Foundation and Qatar’s Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) have renewed their 2006 memorandum of understanding to develop and implement a national digital literacy programme.

    The agreement comes in alignment with ictQATAR’s e-Literacy initiatives, established in an effort to boost government performance and empower citizens with computer skills to take advantage of the latest technologies and online services.

  • Qatar: New e-govt project gets Singapore firm’s help

    A leading Singaporean IT company is working with ictQATAR to establish a new e-government project

    Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) is assisting ictQATAR in implementing the Qatar Services Infrastructure (QSi) project, a fast developing e-government initiative.

    QSi is based on Singapore’s successful Public Service Infrastructure (PSI) initiative, said Shaik Umar, IDA Singapore centre director (Middle East).

  • Qatar: New-look Hukoomi portal ‘user-friendly to the hilt’

    Several new features have been incorporated into Qatar’s newly-designed official government web portal (Hukoomi, www.gov.qa).

    As part of the modifications, a simplified version of Hukoomi can now be accessed through any mobile web browser, said the senior Assistant secretary General of the Information Technology Sector of the ictQATAR Hassan Jassim al-Sayed.

    With the introduction of the new features customers stand to benefit immensely as they can avail of many services without taking queue tokens and waiting for their turn at government offices.

  • Qatar: Office opened for nationals to get smart ID cards

    THE Nationality and Travel Documents Department has opened a temporary office for issuing smart ID card to Qataris at the Qatar National Olympic Committee (QNOC) headquarters.

    QNOC secretary general Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani, who inaugurated the office, thanked the Ministry of Interior for providing the facility.

    The department’s director, Lt Col Abdullah Saa’d al-Buainain, said the initiative comes under the plan of the ministry to make this service available at the premises of various organisations in the country.

  • Qatar: One stop shop - New e-govt portal to make living easy

    Government received some streamlining yesterday at the click of a mouse as the country launched a new e-government portal which will allow citizens and residents to access services and information 24/7.

    The portal was launched by Dr Hessa Al Jaber, Secretary-General of ictQATAR, at an event held at the Sharq Village & Spa. The portal, called Hukoomi, can be accessed at www.gov.qa.

  • Qatar: Online exit permits soon

    The Ministry of Interior will soon be introducing online exit permit formalities, facilitating simpler departure procedures and practically zero paperwork.

    Sources told The Peninsula yesterday that all mechanisms to introduce the facility are now in place and it’s just a matter of deciding when to introduce the new exit permit facility.

  • Qatar: Online referral help for diabetics

    Four students from the Carnegie Mellon University-Qatar (CMU-Q) developed an online referal system for the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) for a more efficient referral process of diabetic patients from physicians.

    The information system, which the students worked on for 15 weeks during the fall semester, was part of the final year senior project that Information Systems students must complete for graduation. The project resulted in building an online referral application that will augment the communication between physicians at health care centers and specialists at the QDA.

  • Qatar: Online visa renewal facility for private firms

    Private concerns with more than 300 employees can now get residence permits of their workers issued or even renewed through the Internet, an announcement made by the e-government said yesterday.
  • Qatar: Over 46,000 online exit permits issued

    A total of about 46,154 exit permits were issued electronically through the e-Government Department since this new service was officially launched in February this year.

    More than 400 companies have subscribed to this service, which was jointly introduced by ictQATAR and the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

  • Qatar: Over QR846m worth e-govt transactions

    Qatar’s e-government website — Hukoomi (www.gov.qa) — processed online transactions worth QR846,732,738 through its payment gateway last year, a senior ictQatar official told The Peninsula yesterday.

    The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) is set to launch a new range of e-services bringing the people and government closer, the official added.
