  • Qatar: E-registration of students in focus

    The Qatar e-government plans an awareness campaign to educate potential users about the student registration e-service for the school year 2005-2006.

    The campaign will be carried out in co-ordination with the IT department of the Ministry of Education, an e-government official said. The campaign will tell parents about the benefits of using the student registration e-service. Parents can register their children in the ministry’s public school system.

  • Qatar: Ecquaria says e-govt projects well on track

    Ecquaria Technologies (www.ecquaria.com), leader in the provision of mission-critical government and enterprise infrastructure and solutions, yesterday announced its e-Government implementation in Qatar is well on track with the launch of its new set of commercial registration e-Services for businesses on the Qatar Service Platform (QSP).

    The announcement coincides with the recent launch of Qatar's new e-Government Portal, called Hukoomi, which provides a single gateway to access Qatar's current and future online e-government services and to access information on government entities and services any time. Ecquaria powers Hukoomi's new commercial registration set of e-Services to allow individuals and businesses to register and manage existing commercial registration processes online.

  • Qatar: Educational directory launched

    The Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) formally launched ‘See Qatar – Educational’, the country’s first comprehensive electronic directory of educational institutions, last night at Doha Sheraton Hotel.

    ‘See Qatar – Educational’ contains information, data and statistics in Arabic and English that will assist guests and visitors in making feasibility studies related to the country’s educational sector. The directory also gives information about laws, regulations and procedures in schools and universities in Qatar.

  • Qatar: Efforts on to build electronic health record system

    Nearly 50 medical professionals from the private and public sector yesterday participated in Qatar's first national workshop on clinical terminology and coding.

    The purpose of the workshop, hosted by the National Health Authority (NHA) with representation from the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar), and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), was to explore options for consistent national medical coding/terminology.

    Attendees also discussed potential governance structure for a national system.

  • Qatar: Environment body begins Net service

    The Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Reserves (SCENR) yesterday launched an electronic service aimed at creating a paperless office.

    The project involves Intranet and Internet facilities for both in-house services and transactions with the public, said Mamoun M Hassan and A Ramesh of Qatar Computer Services, which implemented the project.

  • Qatar: Experts discuss e-government network

    A secure integrated e-government network for Qatar is in the works, and officials from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) and media personalities in the country discussed it in detail in a forum yesterday at the Millennium Hotel.

    Speakers at the forum underscored the collaborative efforts between the MoI and ictQatar to develop the comprehensive government network that will ensure that information being shared and sent electronically between government agencies, businesses and citizens is secure.

  • Qatar: Firms can fix medical check-up date online

    Companies seeking the mandatory medical check-up for their newly recruited workers will soon be able to fix appointments and pay the fees online.

    The Medical Commission announced yesterday that the new service would be available beginning next Monday.

    All newcomers to the country have to undergo the mandatory tests, conducted at the Medical Commission premises in Abu Hamour, within one month of their arrival.

  • Qatar: Firms urged to register for online exit permit

    ictQATAR and the Ministry of Interior yesterday urged companies to register themselves for the online exit permit services since the deadline has already expired on August 1.

    The authorities were planning to make the issuing of exit permits only electronically, said officials of ictQATAR, the policy making and regulatory body for information and communication technology in Qatar.

  • Qatar: Government tenders to go online

    As Qatar moves closer to total e-governance and transparency in its dealings, ictQATAR and the State Audit Bureau (SAB) yesterday announced new online services that will streamline the processes for companies wanting to do business with the government.

    The announcement was made, fittingly, on the sidelines of the ‘Corruption-free Asia: A Long-Term Vision’ conference which concluded at the Sheraton Doha. Yousef Al Naama, ictQATAR's i-Gov Programme Manager, said: "This is part of a nationwide effort to make government work better for those who live and work in Qatar."

  • Qatar: Govt initiative seeks to end computer illiteracy

    The Supreme Council of Information and Communications Technology (ictQATAR), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ICDL GCC Foundation. This is part of ictQATAR’s e-citizens initiative which aims to raise IT awareness and increase the usage of computer and Internet across the various sectors of society, particularly among educators and government employees.

    ictQATAR’s e-Education Manager Dr Mohamed al-Ansari, and ICDL GCC Foundation General Manager Jamil Ezzo signed the MoU.

    The two sides have been working closely over the last few months in preparing to implement the ICDL e-Citizen project in Qatar.

  • Qatar: Govt offices ‘outperform’ private sector in PC usage

    The government institutions in Qatar outperformed the business (private) sector in Internet and PC usage, a recent study by ictQATAR reveals.

    The PC penetration among government organisations stood at 88.2 per 100 employees compared with 48.9 per 100 in the business sector in 2008.

    The same holds good for Internet user penetration at work with the government sector performing significantly better than the business sector at 60.7 per 100 employees to 44.7 per 100 employees.

  • Qatar: Hard process getting a health card

    The process of applying for a health card and its annual renewal, which used to be easy and could be done at primary healthcare centres as well as online, is now restricted to a designated department at the Hamad Hospital.

    Recent experiences by residents wanting to renew their health cards have shown that the whole process has not improved.

    A hospital staff, who spoke with Gulf Times on condition of anonymity, said that in order to obtain a new health card, applicants must still first visit the health centre nearest to their accommodation to open a file.

  • Qatar: Health care centres to be linked electronically

    ictQatar has initiated work on its e-health project, which seeks to link all health care facilities in the country through an electronic network.

    The telecommunications regulatory authority yesterday held its first e-health seminar in partnership with GE Healthcare.

  • Qatar: Health check for workers made easier

    The Medical Commission, jointly with the e-government, yesterday launched the online registration service for companies seeking the mandatory medical check-up for their newly- recruited workers.

    Companies can now fix appointments for the check up as well as pay the fees online. The service is currently accessible to firms registered with the e-government. However, there is a plan to expand it to other categories such as domestic workers in future, Dr Ahmed Kamal Naji, director of the Medical Commission said yesterday.

    Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) launches its revamped website (www.hmc.org.qa) tomorrow with many new features.

    HMC's Health Information Systems (HIS) Department has prepared the new site, which contains information about all hospitals and healthcare centres under HMC.

  • Qatar: HMC urges patients to bring valid health cards

    Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has urged patients to present valid health cards when seeking healthcare services at HMC’s hospitals and primary health centres.

    “Failure to present valid health cards would hinder healthcare services and constitute billing patients for such services as if they bore no health cards,” head of Patients Accounts, Hamad H Hilal said.

  • Qatar: Hukoomi booth at Landmark

    Shoppers at Landmark Mall will be able to visit an interactive booth showcasing Hukoomi, Qatar’s online gateway to government services, from today till May 17.

    The portal provides more than 290 services, including 56 e-services, and information on government entities, with more services and information planned.

  • Qatar: Hukoomi gets major facelift

    Qatar’s e-government portal, Hukoomi (www.gov.qa), has recently undergone a major facelift offering Internet browsers better access to avail of more government online services and improved interface including mobile and social networking assistance.

    The new and appealing Hukoomi website was presented before reporters in a media briefing on Sunday at ictQatar headquarters where officials said the complete redesign was the result of several months of gathering feedback across all sectors in the country.

  • Qatar: Individual exit permits online

    Once residents are issued with smart identity cards, either later this year or in early 2009, they will be able to apply for exit permits online.

    The existing practice is only companies with authorised signatories can apply for the permits online. Colonel Saleh Khamis Ghanim Al Kubaisi, Director of the Information Systems Department at the Ministry of Interior, told reporters yesterday: “However, it depends on the company if it will retain employees’ passports or not.”

  • Qatar: Innovative e-services in store for residents

    Effective and innovative e-services are in store for all residents of Qatar under a masterplan due to be implemented by 2010, an IT forum was told in Doha yesterday.

    The i-Gov Masterplan, which includes 53 charters (groups of initiatives), is due to be implemented by 2010 in four phases.

    “i-Gov, short for integrated e-government, builds on the success of the e-government programme which has introduced the public to the concept of online government access,” the Supreme Council for Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) secretary general Dr Hessa al-Jaber explained at the first Government IT Forum.
