  • UAE: E-gates to be set up at all airports

    All UAE airports will soon have e-gates that will help speed travelling procedures.

    They will reduce the workload on the staff at peak hours, thus helping to reduce the mistakes that may be committed by airport officials.

  • UAE: E-governance 'needs dedicated minister to streamline services'

    The Chief of Dubai Police has suggested a minister for e-government when a new ministerial set-up is expected to be announced next month.

    Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said the responsibility of the minister should be focused on developing government electronic services.

    He was speaking at the electronic governments conference in Abu Dhabi.

  • UAE: e-governance gains ground in Abu Dhabi

    The number of hits recorded by the Abu Dhabi e-government portal exceeded 20 million in 2007, and the number is growing steadily, according to a senior official.

    "More than half the e-government programme has been accomplished so far, in coordination with international consultants, especially from Singapore," said Rashed Al Mansouri, chairman of Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Committee (SIC).

  • UAE: E-government forum presents planning for mission critical applications

    Computer Associate’s (CA) vice president of technology services in the Arab countries, Bjarne Rasmussen, will present CA’s strategy on securing and managing e-government infrastructure, themed “Successful Planning for Mission Critical e-Government Applications”, at the GCC’s e-government forum.

    The forum aims to address the main challenges facing e-governments across this region, and highlight the ideal solutions to overcome these challenges. According to Rasmussen, “In the GCC, CA solutions are supporting government departments with their national information technology plans, including e-government initiatives, as they strive to ease the life of the community and businesses, and realign IT to support department goals - all while helping ensure national security.”

  • UAE: e-Government High Committee reviews project’s implementation

    The e-Government High Committee has expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the implementation of the initiative to date and discussed future implementation phases.

    “What has been achieved so far is a boost to the project and a vote of confidence that the remaining phases of the project will be successfully and speedily implemented, “said H.E Khalid Bustani, Assistant Under Secretary for Revenue and Budget at the Ministry of Finance and Industry (MOFI) during a meeting for the High Committee here, attended by a number of officials.

  • UAE: E-government move for Ajman

    The Emirate of Ajman has announced an e-government initiative that will be rolled out in several phases across several government departments.

    Driven by the vision of H.H, Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi Supreme council member and Ruler of Ajman, the project will see IBM providing consulting and strategic planning services and determining both the processes and the technology requirements for Ajman’s e-Government implementations.

    The 2005 masterplan policy for the e-Government project was approved by the e-Government steering committee at a meeting in Dubai yesterday.

    Held under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammad Khalfan Bin Kharbash, Minister of State for Finance and Industry, the meeting reviewed progress reports of ongoing projects and discussed the e-Government policies, standards and processes (PSP) project.

  • UAE: e-Government project awaits tender feedback

    Federal budgets for the UAE's ambitious e-Government project will be drawn up as soon as responses for the tenders for the various Phase I projects are received, according to the Minister of State for Finance and Industry.

    Involving multiple ministries, five projects have been identified as high priority by the Steering Committee responsible for the e-Government initiative, and could be initiated in another six months or so.

    The UAE e-Government Steering Committee has given the green light for the implementation of five e-government projects as part of a transition plan to put into action priority projects.

    UAE Minister of State for Finance and Industry Dr Mohamed Khalfan bin Kharbash said the projects, covering vital aspects relevant to federal government processes, would be initiated in another six months. Set up last April, the committee submitted the transition plan for approval last month.

    The UAE e-Government Steering Committee is to meet tomorrow to finalise the e-Government strategy and transition plan with a view to accelerating full implementation of the overall project.     An electronic health record system will soon be set up in Dubai as an upgrade of Dubai Health Authority's clinical computing system.

    Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2007 the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) yesterday announced the signing of a contract affiliation agreement with the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) in this regard.

    The electronic record system will have numerous advantages for both patients and healthcare providers, including easier access to records for medical staff around the emirate.
